Looking for information on early General Assembly member and Justice of the Peace FRANCIS DURRETT who purchased land in Lauderdale County (Florence) in 1825 and 1833. He served in the General Assembly in two terms, 1820-21 and 1827-30. He was killed in line of duty as JP in 1837. Wife was Ann Masterson whose brother Gutherage Masterson was also a land owner in Lauderdale County. It is unknown why Francis was killed/where buried. I would love to honor him somehow for his years of service if we could locate his burial site or a picture of him, more info on his General Assembly service, etc. After his death, his wife and children migrated to Yalobusha County, MS where one son George already lived. Francis was of French Huguenot lineage and it is told in the family that Annis carried the old French Coat of Arms wrapped in a blanket in her lap for the whole wagon ride to MS....thanks for any help in locating more info on this early Lauderdale Co resident.
